Due to their busy schedules, it is imperative that you keep your appointment with your Public Defender. If you cannot keep your appointment for any reason, please call to reschedule. Meeting with your attorney prior to your court appearance, allows ample time to prepare your defense and file any Motions or pleadings that may need to be filed with the Court.

Clients are responsible for notifying their attorney of any changes of address and phone number.

Law Clerks

The Douglas County Public Defender's Office employs law students to clerk in the summer and during the school year. The office recruits on campus at both the University of Nebraska College of Law and Creighton University Law School. We also accept resumes from other students attending accredited law schools across the United States.

Our clerks work on a range of projects, including: trial preparation, drafting of memorandums, motions, and appellate briefs, witness interviews, and general legal research. Third year law students, who become senior-certified with the Supreme Court of Nebraska, have the opportunity to practice in Douglas County Court, Douglas County District Court, Nebraska Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Nebraska under the supervision of our attorneys. Upon law school graduation and passing of the Nebraska bar exam, many law clerks are hired as attorneys in the office. Law Clerks are paid through Douglas County or other outside grant providers.
